But hopefully Saw 9 will find the right formula to update the franchise for a new era while still retaining the key elements that made the older Saw movies such massive hits. Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the ninth film in the wildly popular Saw franchise, has been pushed up a week to bring in the summer with horrific murders and gruesome mysteries. The brand-new installment in the horror franchise was originally scheduled to open this month on Friday, May 15. Lionsgate has bumped its Saw movie Spiral back a whole year to May 2021. The landscape is of course very different now than it was in 2003 when the first Saw came out, with supernatural jump-scare horror having supplanted torture-porn for the most part. Lionsgate pushes its Saw movie Spiral back a whole year from its original release date to May 2021 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The film follows police as they investigate grisly murders that appear to be the work of a copycat of the Jigsaw killer. Spiral was released in 2021 and stars Chris Rock and Samuel L. It’s actually amazing to realize that it’s been almost 20 years since the original Saw unleashed its particular brand of torture-porn carnage on the world, introducing the iconic horror villain Jigsaw in the process. The ninth installment and most recent addition to the Saw franchise until Saw X is Spiral: From the Book of Saw. It will indeed be fascinating to see how Rock, Bousman and company reinvent Saw for 2021. It remains to be seen what will be included in the new Spiral: From the Book of Saw trailer set to arrive tomorrow, but it’s safe to say there’s a high level of anticipation for this newest entry in the long-running gorefest franchise.
